The determination of catecholamines as well as their metabolites (e.g metanephrine, normetanephrine and 3-methoxytyramine (=metanephrines)) is of importance for the management and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures for a number of clinical conditions. Elevated levels of metanephrines can contribute to treatment-resistant or paroxysmal hypertension, often accompanied by symptoms such as headaches, sweating, and palpitations.
